Our Story

Axis is an exciting church plant that launched in October of 2009.  Axis was a dream that was first born in the heart of our Lead Pastor, Stephen and his wife Lisa.  Stephen began to feel a deep conviction that the local church of today can look more like the dynamic, life giving, transforming, God led, disciple making church of the New Testament.

The American church is declining in every statistical area.  Over 4,000 churches close their doors in America each year.  Only 17% of the population in Northern Cincinnati are gathering in church on a given Sunday.  These are just some of the facts that God began to use to birth a vision in Stephen's heart that the church of today can be more.

At the same time, God was preparting other people to join this mission.  Josh Romano was writing in his prayer journal "God where do you want to send me?"  He wrote the word "Mason Ohio."  Little did he know that just two weeks before, Stephen had made the first steps to start a church in the Northern Suburbs of Cincy.

A year before, Stephen's wife Lisa came to him at a conference they were attending together to tell him that the Holy Spirit had prompted her that they were to plant a new church.  The feeling was undeniable and overwhelming.

When Stephen called the international church planting organization called Stadia and said, "I want to plant a church."  Brent Folk asked, "Where do you want to plant?"  Stephen said, "I want to go to Warren County Ohio.  My heart is to reach the Cincinnati Dayton area."  Brent said, "wow, you won't believe this.  Just two weeks ago a group of leaders got together at a Kingdom Synergy Partners meeting in Columbus and agreed to help fund a church plant in (you guessed it) Warren County Ohio." Amazing how God works!

Once Stephen went public with the vision, others began to join the mission.  Each one of them can tell inspiring stories of how God moved them to make the vision a reality.

Axis has discovered that the church is not a building. We have gathered in an early childhood center, a movie theater, houses and now in a warehouse.  We have found that the Sunday gatherings are only one part of church.  We have committed ourselves to the mission that God ordained movements happen in and through relationships.  We are a team!  Will you join the movement?
